06/22 Day 13, Wyoming Jackson - Pinedale(80 Miles)
An
uneventful day mostly, thankfully. We
re-joined the main route and had highway much of the day. Of course it would not be the Tour Divide
without the daily surprise. We had to
take what I deemed a totally useless cow path just before a big climb. Eventually back on paved road to
Pinedale.
After a long stretch of pavement, we come over
a rise and see a gas station sign.
Joyful at
the idea of shade and a cold drink we pulled in. Quickly we realized the pumps were closed and
so too the store though according to the posted hours it should have been
open. There was a soda machine on the
porch so all was not lost. Pinedale is a lovely town, one I would like to go back to some day. We first pulled into the Great Outdoor Shop so I could get a new pair of Smartwool socks. The staff were Tour Divide followers and again, we received over the top treatment. They directed us to the brew pub next door for dinner and lent us an iPad so we could surf the web while waiting for dinner.
We found a
great little cabin for the night at the Log Cabin Motel; built in the late
1800s and furnished from the 50’s. Way
cool A grocery was near by and we did
the usual stocking up before turning in.
By bed time
I had a terrific stomach ache. I
recalled eating a turkey sandwich during the day that had likely gotten too
warm. Some lemon tea and a couple of
pepto tabs seemed to put things right.
Note to self about the warm food business.
